ABOUT

About

Would you like to stay in a house full of character, beautifully decorated with lots of attention to detail? Would you like to fall asleep in a truly comfortable bed , drifting off to the sound of the River Pique flowing past your window? Would you like to start your morning with a truly marvellous breakfast?

Then Les Deux Rives could be just the place for you.

You will be welcomed by my brother Ed and myself , Louise.  We came here from England in 2017 and love it. Please excuse our French, we are learning little by little!

Come and visit us in Cierp-Gaud at the heart of the Pyrenees. We would love you to experience this wonderful place where we are lucky enough to live. The village is beautiful and we are only 20 minutes away from the thermal spa town of Bagnères de Luchon and it's ski resort Super-Bagnères. Our village nestles in the Luchon Valley between a collection of charming villages and stunning countryside.

You might come here for hiking, cycling, fishing, climbing, horse riding, paragliding or just to find somewhere to relax, have a coffee (or wine), and spend time just enjoying the atmosphere.

When we arrived in 2017, the house was an empty shell with giant beehives in the windows, a jungle for the garden, no mains waste and lots and lots of dust! With a lot of hard work and determination and the help of a local builder and a young man who used to work for me in England, we renovated this historical building into a bed and breakfast. In total, we installed 6 bathrooms, knocked through walls, built new walls, repaired ceilings and even had to install steel girders under a couple of floors.  We decorated and laid carpets, put up curtains, painted the shutters. The jobs seemed endless! And unbelievably, we managed to do it all from start to finish in 5 months. It nearly killed us! But we love it so much, it was worth laying in bed aching from head to toe every night. As soon as we opened, we had guests.

All of our guests (and up to 2020 we have welcomed around 2,000 guests) have been a pleasure. You have been kind and thoughtful, clean and tidy. We really are lucky to be here and hope that if you are reading this, that you are considering being another guest in our beautiful home and village.

SEE & DO

THINGS TO DO

Cycling

Being in the area of part of the Tour de France route, cycling is a huge pastime. People come from all over the world to cycle the same mountains and routes used in the greatest cycle race. But there are also cycle paths along the base of the Vallee du Luchon for those with a more normal level of fitness. Cycle hire is available in Luchon and we have secure storage for your own bikes here.

Cultural Sites

South-west France is brimming with cultural sites but only 10km away is the ancient city of Saint Bertrand de Comminges with its elegant Romanesque cathedral, which contains the tomb of Bishop Bertrand de l'Isle who was canonised in the 13th Century. This is well worth a visit.

Restaurants

The local restaurant in Cierp-Gaud is Lou Casteu, serving excellent pizza plus an a- la carte menu. If you have a car you could visit Luchon, where there is a selection of bars and restaurants. And only a 25 minute drive you could be in Spain for tapas or paella.

Local Activities

In Cierp-Gaud village there is 'Pyrenees Ho' (an adventure Park), Cap Del Mail Farm where you can visit their animals, and Abracadabr'ane (a donkey sanctuary), fishing and some beautiful walks. In Luchon there is a thermal spa bath, equestrian centre, cycle hire, paragliding, an airfield with gliders, a 9 hole golf course, plenty of walking routes, beautiful lakes and waterfalls.
